Not So Bad After All

Saturday did not turn out at all how it was supposed to unfold. I had major plans in place for this day and not one of them happened. And on top of it all, I'm still stuffed up and achy and coughing and just generally blech. Here's what was supposed to happen today:

> The woman from the Kijiji ad was supposed to e-mail me back and answer my questions I had asked about the puppy she's getting rid of. If she gave the answers we were hoping for, we were going to drive down to Saskatoon and pick up said puppy. But no response means no puppy.

> While we were supposed to be in Saskatoon, I was going to pick up a Christmas gift for my sister from a specific store so I could put the parcel in the mail on Monday so it would get to Germany on time. I've got presents for my nephews that will go in that parcel as well. No trip to Saskatoon means no gift yet which means no parcel in the mail.

> The home loan that we've applied for was supposed to be activated on Friday so that we can continue on our house renovations and get more projects finished up before Christmas. Projects like finishing up a basement bedroom for Colby, drop down lighting over our breakfast bar, new flooring and a new shower in the basement bathroom, and finishing up our main bathroom. No loan means no house renos are getting done.

So what did we do today instead? After dropping the boys off at their mom's house, we toodled out of town and scoured available land for where we'd like to build our next house. Next, we went to Walmart where we picked up general household items. I got really excited over getting a Downey ball (you know, those balls that release fabric softener?) and a new brand AND scent of laundry detergent (Gain just doesn't do it for me anymore). We also bought a thermometer which provided me with a solid twenty minutes of entertainment when we got home. After Walmart, Mike waited in the van while I popped into my favourite clothing store. After humming and hawing for about 20 minutes, I realized that I needed neither the nightgown nor the fancy silver top so I left the store somewhat dejected. Mike pushed me back into the store, made me model the shirt for him and announced we were buying it (just to me, not the whole store). Since it was buy one, get one for 40% off, instead of the nightgown, I picked up a cozy pair of flannel Christmas pajamas (which I am wearing while I type this). The day doesn't end there...

Next we went to Safeway and picked up some groceries. Since it's Grey Cup tomorrow, we stocked up on munchies for the game. After supper, we drove out to St. Louis to watch my brother play senior rec. hockey. They beat Tisdale 14-6! Yay! It's been years since I've seen Brady play hockey so it was great to be back in a freezing cold rink, sipping on a hot chocolate and cheering him on! When we got home, we started watching 'Ocean's Thirteen', but the pace of the day has finally caught up to us. Brady is coming over in the morning for brunch and I want to slip out in the morning to go get fresh fruit and some more eggs.

So, I maybe took longer than I should have to recap what we did today. But as I reread through this post, I realize that today was a really great day. I'm glad we didn't get the puppy because I know I know I know that I am trying to use animals as a replacement for a baby. I'm also glad the bank loan hasn't come in yet. Because when it does, I know it's going to mean working like crazy for the next four weeks before our guests start to show up. I'm glad that I get excited over little things like new fabric softener or new cozy pajamas. I like finding joy in the little things...because most of life is the little things.

  1. OMG! Another dog!?!?! You're right, probably a good thing that the Kijiji gal didn't respond back (heehee!). I totally understand what you mean about enjoying the "small things". My new hair cut and a couple of cheap Wal Mart shirts have kept me happy for days now :-)

  2. I don't know what I was thinking with wanting another dog...more food to buy, more poop to clean up and more feet to wipe when we come inside...I'm glad smarter heads prevailed (this time anyways!).
