What's In Yours?

Lately, I've been looking in people's fridges. Don't ask me why they are interesting to me...they just are. I see so many fridges that are stuffed to the gills and it makes me wonder - what the heck is in there? Does their fridge always look like that or am I seeing it right after grocery shopping? I mean, I'm no slouch when it comes to grocery shopping, but the only time my fridge looks like that is if we're having company over.

I never keep my head in someone's fridge long enough to take inventory...it's more of a quick glance as they're grabbing something out. I can't tell exactly what's in there...whether it's all fruits and veggies, leftovers, condiments...who knows? All I know is that for the most part, our fridge has lots of open space. I buy the same fruits all the time...apples, orange, bananas and grapes. The apples, oranges and bananas sit in the fruit basket on the counter because we don't like our fruit super cold. The only fresh veggies I buy are mini-carrots, an onion or two, mixed field greens and celery. So that takes up what? One of the bottom crispers? We buy 16 litres of milk in a week, but that only takes up the top right hand shelf, leaving 3 half shelves, a full bottom shelf, and the door to be filled up. Another shelf is used for other dairy products (eggs, yogurt, butter, cottage cheese etc). So that leaves 2 half shelves and a full one. The very top half shelf has some condiments and animal food on it. So that leaves one half shelf and the very bottom. The last half shelf holds our left overs, but our leftovers never last long (we either eat them the next night or Joel takes them for lunch throughout the week). So that leaves the very bottom shelf and one crisper. These two rarely have anything on them or in them. Like I said, pretty much only if we're having company over.

In retrospect, I guess it's maybe not-so-much the fact that our fridge is empty all the time....maybe we just have a really big fridge? Still, that doesn't change the fact that when I look at other people's fridges (I'm picturing my mother-in-law's right now...it's just her and her husband) it leaves me wondering what are they are packed with? Do they seriously eat all of this food or use all these items/condiments before they go bad? Or is it just that they're fridge is really small? I'm going to have to pay closer attention now...maybe I'll have to start quizzing people when I'm over at their house. For now, I leave you with the question...what's in your fridge? Is it always full or does it look empty? If it is stuffed, do you eat/use everything that's in there on a regular basis?
