Home Sweet Home

I did not want to come home today. I did not want to let Mike out of the van at Cold Lake. I just wanted to continue driving. I had such a blast this past weekend...I just didn't want it to end. Since it's late and I've been on the road since 8:30 this morning, here are the past three days in shortened form:

Friday night --> went out for supper in Red Deer with Mike's friend from high school Beckie. I want to move to Red Deer to be closer to Beckie. She is my sista from another mista or something a little less corny than that. But seriously, it is freaky the similarities between Beckie and me. Both teachers in the correctional system. Husbands are both guards. Both played net in soccer because we didn't want to run up and down the field. Both have cats named Sophie. Both have sunflowers tattooed on our ankles, but we both originally wanted an anklet of sunflowers but changed our minds at the last minute. The list can continue, but these are the major similarities.

Saturday --> went out for lunch with my friend from Education, Raelene, her husband Ian and their beautiful seven month old son, Landon. After lunch, Mike and I shopped 'til we dropped. Our only purchase was a new painting for our living room or where ever we can fit it...this thing is HUGE (tape measures, people, are seriously under rated). We went out for supper and then went on a movie date to see 'Juno' (complete with touching hands in the popcorn). After the movie, we bought Timmie's and drove around, looking at the big houses in Red Deer and dreaming. Someday....

Sunday --> drove to Ponoka to visit Rae (beautiful house!). Continued on to Fort Saskatchewan to visit with Mike's friends from high school, Randy and Cathy, and their sons, Samuel and Ethan. We went out for supper and then watched the Oscars and visited. Wonderful meal, wonderful evening, wonderful friends...

Some observations from the trip:

- gas station bathrooms are excellent sources for quadricep workouts

- while we no longer tip in restaurants, we now leave tips for hotel chamber maids...they really do deserve it

- I love the sounds of the van when you're dozing in it at night...the hum of the tires, the thump as the van passes over small imperfections in the road, the squeak of the leather steering wheel, the lone sound of the turn signal...so soothing...

- if you ever find yourself in a jacuzzi tub, having a conversation with your partner about personal, slightly risque topics and you're needing to raise your voice over the noise of the jets and you're in a ground floor room, check to make sure the window is closed. Enough said.

- Mike really is a good driver...even without me back seat driving

- I may, just may, be an overpacker...were three large suitcases, a duffel bag, the laptop bag, and a cardboard box really neccessary for our trip? I'm thinking no...

- original Febreeze does a pretty dang good job of making pretty much any smell disappear

- after eight years of being together, I still cry when I have to say good-bye to Mike

- long distance relationships suck...big time

- and last, but not least, the farting "blame game" is funny at any age

  1. Glad to hear you had a great weekend. Haha! Love the comment about the quad workout in the bathroom....I hope you didn't pull a Britney and go in barefoot, though (probably a good thing it is winter) lol.
It's awesome that you got to meet some of Mike's old friends and better yet that you had so much in common! Gimme a call!
