The Best and Worst

Best state to drive through: Idaho. Beautiful mountains and canyons; tons of snow (but cleared highways); huge, beautiful cabins sprinkled along the highway; people fly-fishing in the rivers

Worst state to drive though: Nevada. Not for a lack of scenery, but because the interstate started to get insane-busy and it was HOT outside!

Best hotel: Hampton Inn in Thankgiving Point, Utah. Wonderful service; beautifully decorated rooms (vases of flowers in the rooms, tile and granite bathrooms, dark wood furniture and white fluffy down duvets); wonderful continental breakfast (which I like to refer to as incontinent breakfasts) and beautifully landscaped grounds.

Worst hotel: Super 8 in Medicine Hat (on our way home). Sunflower seeds on the floor from previous occupants, no ground level rooms so having to lug Joel down a flight of stairs; small, cramped, stinky, cold room where the fridge didn't work so all our food spoiled.

Best meal: Planet Hollywood, Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas. Good food, huge portions, reasonably priced, terrific service and amazing atmosphere!

Worst meal: Any McDonald's. They have no idea how to make a proper McChicken sandwich. The bread had a funky taste that reminded me of the time I accidently ate a bun that was moldy on the bottom and the sauce was nasty and spiced up. And I made the mistake of ordering a McChicken twice...blech!

Best roadside bathroom: the tiny little border crossing in southern SK. It was sparkling clean and they provided paper toilet seat covers!

Worst roadside bathroom: any of the rest area bathrooms along the interstate

Best attraction: Terminator 3-D at Universal. Although the show was a touch too loud, it is an amazing blend of live actors, 3-D effects, a miniature movie (the actors would walk into the screen and then appear in the movie) and sensory stimulation (when the final liquid-magma robot was blown up, the crowd was sprayed with blobs of water).

Worst attraction: Hollywood Wax Museum. You know it's a bad replica when they've got name cards next to the figure and you still can't see the resemblance! Gwyneth Paltrow looked like Nick Nolte in drag.
