Mike and I went to Superstore tonight to bulk up on ''storm neccessities''. That is, just in case we get shut in by this supposed blizzard, we wanted to make sure we would have stuff to get us through the weekend. By the time we got to the check-out, our cart contained items like bottled water, fruit, dog treats, cereal, milk and a couple of cheap movies (Spaceballs, Naked Gun, Dances With Wolves and a Friends compilation). In retrospect, those are all good, healthy things one could survive on for a few days, if need be. The rest of the cart, however, contained pure gluttony. We bought chocolate, apple pie, pizza, pepsi, some frozen lunches, nachos and cheese and other totally unhealthy goodies. I love our Friday night dates. Mike is laying bed, playing PS3 and as soon as I'm done posting, I will make up a tray of snacks and join him. Before you start throwing winks and nods in my direction, I'm going to be watching the new Friends DVD on the laptop. Yup, good old quality time together doing totally separate activities.
Anyways, the point of this post was supposed to be about the little incident that happened at Superstore. As Mike and I were fishing our way through the DVD bin, a group of girls walked passed us. I instantly recognized one of the girls from high school and we said enthusiastic hellos at the same time. I will call this girl Jenn. Then, I recognized Courtney (whom I've known since Grade Eight) and we said hello with even more enthusiasm. We got chatting about my brother's upcoming wedding and Courtney mentioned that Jenn was getting married again and the reason they were all at Superstore was to prepare for tomorrow night's stagette. When Courtney mentioned this, I looked at Jenn and was about to offer congratulations when something stopped me. For some strange reason, I suddenly debated as to whether this was actually the Jenn I remembered or whether this was someone else that I recognized and she just looked like Jenn, so I said nothing. Courtney and I continued chatting and then we went our separate ways.
As soon as the girls were out of earshot, I explained the situation to Mike. I knew that I knew this girl and I was positive it was Jenn, but it just seemed strange that Courtney was talking about Jenn in the third person, like she wasn't even there and when Courtney mentioned Jenn's wedding, Jenn said absolutely nothing and just let Courtney speak for her. It was all just too weird and I knew I had to sort it out before they all left the store, or it would bug me to no end. I ended up catching Courtney when she was away from the other girls and I said, ''Is that Jenn's sister?'' at which point Courtney started laughing. She said that after Mike and I had walked away, ''Jenn'' asked Courtney if she thought that I thought she was Jenn. I was right...it wasn't Jenn, but it was her sister (who, by the way, looks identical to Jenn). But the reason that ''Jenn'' and I originally said hello was because ''Jenn'' was at our high school reunion last September and we actually spent a large part of the evening chatting (and, to my credit, she did have darker hair back then). And the reason I am still referring to her as ''Jenn'' is because I can't remember her name. Now that you are all thoroughly confused, I'm going to go snuggle under the duvet with Mike, eat some apple pie and watch Friends. I love us.
