Well, after reading Nikki's suggestion, I tried eggs last night. That didn't work out so well. I didn't throw them up, but I did have extreme gas throughout the night (I swear the covers were lifting up like when Fred Flintstone snores). I should have known better though - eggs have always had a tendency to leave me a touch gassy :)
Christine...I'm going to try your suggestion tomorrow morning. Mike just went out to get me strawberries, bananas, orange juice and yogurt so I can make a smoothie for breakfast (poor guy is home sick from work tonight and he still wants to take of me). Regardless of whether the smoothie works, I will try Valeria's suggestion of milk, cereal and fruit on Friday morning (bread or toast just hasn't been agreeing with me). I've never been a big fan of cereal for breakfast, but at this point, I'm willing to try anything that will stay in me. Plus, I need a few options to switch back and forth between.
As for taking extra smoothie or other food to work, one problem is that I don't get breaks to go retrieve food or snacks from a fridge. I am not free to leave my classroom whenever I need to - I have to get another staff member to watch over my class while I'm gone and I don't like being a bother to them. Thankfully, I haven't thrown up at work yet, but if it comes to that, it will likely just be doing it into the garbage can next to my desk. It must sound like I teach in a cave or something LOL. For those of you who don't know where I work, leave your e-mail address in the comments (I will delete it once I've used it so it's not there for stalkers to find) and I will give you the lowdown on my job (because I can't publicly say on here).
I'll let you know what works and what doesn't. Thank you for your tips though...I really do appreciate them :-)
What about putting a bottle of isagel (hand sanitizer) on your desk, and having trail mix or crackers to snack on throughout the morning?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was pregnant and had to work early mornings, I kept crackers beside the bed. I ate a few before I got up. Then I took ginger. Then I ate oatmeal, otherwise I would faint. (Thought I know you can't eat oatmeal right now.) Then throughout the morning at work I ate crackers & had juice (for some sugar), which I don't usually drink. This combo kept me from passing out and feeling nauseous.
I think it's most important to find some kind of protein if you can't have eggs or whole grains (ie. trail mix or a yogurt, or a slice of cheese). One of my friends fainted as a bridesmaid when pregnant and the doctor gave her heck for only having fruit & a croissant -- she had breakfast, but no protein.
During my pregnancy I resorted to trying Diclectin (a prescription drug that combines antihistamine with vitamin B6) which is specifically used for treating nausea in pregnancy and deemed safe. I had no luck with this but many people say it works wonders. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh no! I can see how that wouldn't be ideal - especially for Mike ;)
ReplyDeleteI still stay stick with the protein or like Valeria said some cereal - but make it whole grain. Anything with 6grams of fiber will keep you full longer which seems to be the goal right?
have you tried Maple Leaf top Dogs and Ice cream with sauerkraut? heard that is supposed to good for this. good luck.
ReplyDeleteMiss you Jyl, take care.
