I know I should probably be focusing on things baby-related, but right now, my focus is on my birthday that is only six weeks away. The invitations have been sent out for my 30th birthday bash. The original guest list had some 50 people on it (which would have rivaled our wedding guest list), so we ended up cutting out the people we work with. We also cut out Mike's family because of what happened at Mike's 40th (yes, all those jeers are directed at his family...do they really need to keep asking why we won't host Christmas at our house?).
The theme is Hollywood Extravaganza Gala Fest where the guests are encouraged (nay, forced) to dress up as some type of celebrity (movie, TV, celeb, 20s glam starlet, Oscar nominee etc). Yesterday I purchased the bulk of the decorations online. I had a blast picking out wall decor, large cut outs, VIP signs and, yes, an inflatable Oscar that will stand in the front yard. The deposit has been paid on what will be the most incredible birthday cake ever made (thanks to Megan of Sugar Bites Baking in Saskatoon). I went for a taste test a week ago and oh-my-word if I could bake like Megan, I would be twice this size!
Now all that's left to do is:
- plan the menu for supper
- plan the appetizers/munchies/junk food
- pick out movie soundtrack music to play throughout the evening
- buy the rest of the decorations (plates, table cloth etc.)
- hire the surprise entertainment for the evening
- find who rents out karaoke machines in PA
- find movie subjects for Hollywood Charades
- decide on my and Mike's outfits (I don't think my belly will be pregnant enough to go with my original idea)
Like everything else that I get off-the-wall excited over, I think Mike is starting to get tired of our entire day's conversation revolving around all things party related. Mike will be sharing a story about work and I'll blurt out in the middle, "I need to have Bohemian Rhapsody on the playlist for the karaoke...I've been practising since January". Mike just rolls his eyes and finishes telling the dog the rest of the story.
Woooooooaaaaa!!!! You are making a real big event! I envy your will, I would be much much much lazier. This sounds like a great party... I just hope you don't work too much. How's JB?
ReplyDeleteHope to chat soon. Evening would be fine. YOu?
I'm super excited to make the cake!
ReplyDeleteAnd I know all the words to Bohemian Rhapsody :) I love that song!
