Until We Meet Again

Dear ARTUS (Assisted Reproductive Technology at the University of SK)

I wholeheartedly thank you for the year and a half we have spent together. Things started out a little shaky (when that first doctor we met with made a rude comment about me) and there were moments when I wanted to switch to the Calgary clinic. Leading up to our first round of in-vitro, there were times when I felt I was simply Patient #123xyz and not J. But ever since December, I have had nothing but positive, pleasant interactions with each one of the nurses and the staff at your clinic.

Today was the last day I will be on your floor (until we decide to have baby #2) and I was happy to stop in to each on of the nurses' office and the reception area to thank the staff personally for their excellent care. There are just a couple of extra things I want to thank you for:

- thank you for answering each of my questions with thorough answers, even though it was probably the millionth time you had heard it

- thank you for oohing and aahing over our ultrasound pictures, even though it was probably the thousandth one you've seen

- thank you to that red haired nurse for catching me when I tripped while getting out of the stir-up chair (and my apologies to the nurse and doctor that I flashed when I dropped my sheet in the process, but honestly, you both saw a whole lot more than my bum cheeks just a few moments before that, so really, I shouldn't have been that embarrassed)

- thank you for laughing at my corny jokes

- thank you for turning the ultrasound screen so I can see it and for answering each one of my "What's that?" and "Is that good? Is that normal?" questions

- lastly, thank you for helping us create the beautiful little life that is growing in my tummy

And yes, we will be sending you a picture (or two or three or four) when Jellybean makes her grand entrance into the world next January.

Until next time,

J

Measuring a whopping 3.2 cm with a heartbeat of 176 bpm, we have decided on a new nickname...Bobblehead. When the nurse held the ultrasound still, the Baby was weaving and bopping her head, waving her little nubby arms and kicking her little nubby legs to some beat that only she could hear. I am so excited to see how much she changes in the next ten weeks...that's how long we have to wait until our next ultrasound!
