New Year's Post #4...Final Thoughts

As this decade draws to a close, I can't help but look back, not just at the past year, but over the last ten years. Mike and I will soon be celebrating our ten year anniversary...I can't quite believe that a third of my life has been spent with this wonderfully amazing man!

As I reflect on the past decade, I look at all I have accomplished. I was thrown into the world of being a step-mother at the young age of twenty. I was instantly a hockey mom and participating in parent-teacher interviews. I had to learn how to cook something more than frozen pizza or ichiban. I became responsible for bed time routines, back-to-school shopping, organizing kids' birthday parties and all the joys that go with disciplining. On top of this, I had to learn about cerebral palsy and how to raise a child who has severe disabilities and is 100% dependant for all of his needs. Don't tell Mike, but I think I fell in love with Joel first :-)

The other major accomplishments of the decade include obtaining my bachelor degree, starting my career, becoming a home-owner and becoming Mike's wife. I shake my head at all that has occurred over the last ten years and I am so excited to see what awaits us in the decade to come...how many more kids we'll add to the pack, what places we'll visit, whether we'll still be in the same house or even city, where we will be working and so on. I've always thought of life as being a book that is written as we go and I, for one, can't wait to see what the next chapter brings.

Happy New Year to you and yours. I hope 2010 is all you wish it to be.
