Buddies

This past summer, I posted about how the boys' mom, D, became a foster mother to a baby deer (you really should check out the post if for no other reason then to see pics of the wee tiny baby deer that is just too cute!). Lucky has now grown into a young buck and he still lives with D and her husband. He takes off during the day to do who-knows-what, but he always comes home at night to bed down in his outdoor pen. There are two other dogs that live on the acreage and the three of them play fight with each other. D is pretty sure that Lucky thinks he's a dog.

Over the past few weeks, I've brought Shandi along for our Friday night drives out to D's acreage when we drop the boys off for their weekend with mom. Shandi and Lucky quite enjoy one another's company. Lucky comes over to the passenger window and sticks his head inside. The two proceed to sniff and lick one another, all the while Shandi is whining with glee.

I cannot get over how much Lucky has grown in the past few months. He has tiny little nubs where his antlers will grow in next year. Given that he likes to butt his head against the van door, I'm hoping he quits doing that in the near future, before the side of the van is all scratched to hell :-)

  1. I was just thinking of that little guy the other day! Good to see that he made it and is doing well.
