A while back, I talked about feeling disengaged...like I couldn't focus long enough on a conversation to really take part. Last week, I was the complete opposite. Mike compared me to a hot air popcorn popper...my thoughts and conversations were just flying all over the place. I couldn't finish one thought before throwing in another. I was making zero sense. We'd be talking about work that needs to be done on the car when I'd start talking about the air freshener in Joel's room without telling Mike that I was talking about the air freshener in Joel's room. Mike's sentence would be, "So I guess I should make an appointment to get the winter tires taken off," to which I'd reply, "It should be turned down to 'low' because it's coming out too strong on 'high'". There was a lot of confused looks being exchanged last week.
And now I sit with kleenex shoved up my runny nose, a head full of fog and a back full of aches. Stupid head colds. I guess this is what happens when you say to yourself, "Gee, it's been quite awhile since I've been sick". But, if I'm going to be sick, this week is better than last week. This week, the boys are gone to their mom's house and Mike only works two days which means he can look after Katelyn without my feeling guilty that he's pulling double duty with caring for Joel. Plus, there was a lot going on last week that I didn't want to miss out on. The only plan for this week is to head back to Saskatoon to spend the day with Bella before she heads back to Mexico.
Some thoughts/news from last week/this week/the future:
- Katelyn is a rockstar. She is sleeping through the night now...some nights she will crash from 9:30pm until 7:00am. Most nights it's from 11:00pm until 8:00am. In the morning, I can typically get an extra hour out of her by continually popping her soother back in her mouth when she starts to fuss.
- Her toothless, gummy grins when she wakes up are just amazing. It honestly makes me feel like there's no one else in the world but me and her. She lets out a big smile, opens her mouth wide and cocks her head to the side like she's going to wink. It. is. priceless.
- We should have the tracking/lift installed in Joel's room before summer. We are getting a piece of track in his room that will allow us to lift him from his bed to his wheelchair or his commode with zero strain on our back. Plus, there will be a piece of track in the bathroom that will lift him from his wheelchair (that will have to sit in the hallway) to the tub. It is going to be so awesome to not have to lift him anymore. At 5'4" and 100lbs of dead weight, he is one heavy kid to be constantly lifting.
- I finally found a hand creme that has stopped my knuckles from cracking and bleeding. God bless Glysomed and Prevex. My doc told me that the quicker a lotion sinks in and the prettier it smells, the crappier it works. These cremes are uber greasy and they smell like a cow's udder but man oh man, do they work wonders!
- Friends of ours from Camrose stopped by on Saturday for a quick visit. They had already sent Katelyn a gift shortly after she was born, so I was surprised to see they came bearing more gifts! One of the gifts was this ADORABLE purple tutu. I kid you not...I literally shrieked when I opened the package. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I would have loved a son just as much, but I think I love Katelyn a little more because she is my girl. Shirts with trucks and little ball caps have nothing on tutus, tiara headbands and little Louis Vuitton shoes. I. Love. My. Girl.
She is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think so too :-)
