Food For The Weary Mind

The Christmas albums are piled and resting on top of the record player.

The dyed-green, mint flavoured chocolate chip cookies are baked.

The Rolo hot chocolate is sitting on the cupboard, ready to be mixed and topped with marshmallows, whip cream and chocolate drizzle (nothing but low-cal treats for this gal).

The living room floor is swept and washed in anticipation for the tree to be drug up from the basement.

Tonight's Christmas tree/house decorating is exactly what this chickie needs to get her mental train back on its track.

It's been a trying week (complete with everyone being sick, a teething baby who won't sleep, a mind that just won't shut up and let me have a moment of peace all while trying to come to terms with the fact that my grandfather will likely pass away before Christmas).  Needless to say, moments of goodness have been few and far between.

That's why I am still laughing over the incident this morning with the little white dog who showed up, shivering, at our back door and when I set her down in the kitchen to phone animal control, she darted off to our bedroom (likely following Baby Kitty's scent) which resulted in a large, black ball of fur flying passed me at shoulder level in the cat's mad attempt to escape the yippy little dog.

I had no idea cats could fly.

  1. so sorry to hear about your grandfather...I just lost mine Nov 7th so this will be the first Christmas without him.
Treasure your time with your grandfather, and know that he had a long, good life.
Still waiting for you to call me for coffee :)

  2. Make sure you tell your grandpa you love him. I lost my grandpa (my last grandparent too) on January 1st of this year and it really hit me as I was writing up Christmas cards and found my list of recipients from last year and realized I wouldn't be sending one to grandpa this year. It's tough, just try to enjoy the time you have left!
