I've been nominated by Deena from Shoes to Shiraz to answer the following questions. Thanks, Deena! I was having trouble coming up with topics to blog about so this is perfect timing!
1) How did you decide on your blog name?
The line "And so it goes" comes from Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five". I read the book while sitting in a park in Germany, laughing my fool head off. I still giggle at what a sight I must have been…this lone North American with her pretzel and can of coke, laughing and laughing at different parts of this typically non-comedic book. In university, I used the tagline when I would sign off emails to my fellow cohorts. So when it came time for a blog, it just seemed a natural fit. Maybe someday I'll actually buy the domain name, but for now, I'm fine with it being a blogger domain.
2) How has blogging enhanced your life?
Blogging has changed my life in two ways. One, it has allowed relationships to develop with people I have never met, but have become close with (Hi, Angie! Hi, Nicki!). Two, it has given me a platform to share the ups and downs of my life. From the births of my babes to my stays on the psych ward, this followers of the blog have always supported me when I need it most. I've slowed down with my posts as of late and I'm really working at becoming more regular again. In it's heyday, I could pump out five funny posts in a week. Maybe it's the pharmaceuticals, but I don't feel as funny as I used to be. Or maybe because I now share the posts on Facebook where my aunts and parents can read it, I feel I shouldn't swear as much. Fuck.
3) What tip would you offer new bloggers?
Write about what you know. Whether it's parenting, the perils of your job or just day to day things, keep it true to yourself. Don't write for your followers and what you think they want you to write about.
4) What's your favourite guilty pleasure?
Ice cream and Netflix. I've made it through all six seasons of Breaking Bad (and am going to start watching it again soon), four seasons of Downton Abbey (LOVE LOVE LOVE), most of the seasons of How I Met Your Mother, three seasons of Orange is The New Black…once the kids are in bed, I always make time for some ice cream and Netflix!
5) What are you reading now?
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore. This book is hilarious. It takes place in two "time zones"…one in the present as Biff is trying to write the story while being kept captive in a hotel room by an angel and the other is the recalling of his friendship with Jesus (aka Joshua). Did I mention it's hilarious?
6) What are three things you can't live without?
My chapstick. Clean underwear. Good chocolate.
7) What season is easiest to dress for? Also, what is your favourite season? I have to go with Deena on this one and say Fall!! I love the cool, crisp weather, tall boots, but no need for heavy coats.
8) What would you love to get paid to do now? I wish I still had my kids clothing store. I loved being in the retail business AND having my kids with me. I regret shutting it down, but the money just wasn't there and we were sinking further into debt. Le sigh.
9) What's your favourite place to visit? Los Angeles!! Hollywood!! Las Vegas!! Anywhere where there's a chance I might see a celebrity!!
10) Have you ever done anything that's taken you out of your comfort zone? If so, what? Being checked into the psych ward was a whole new experience. I remember my blood pressure being 150/120 when they took it. Talk about being anxious! But it was much needed as a break for me to get back on my feet. I hated the first day of being in there…it was like being the new kid at school. Where would I sit to eat? Would anyone talk to me? Did I even want anyone to talk to me? By the end of the stay, I was playing Kaiser and having lively conversations with my fellow patients (as lively as they could be after night meds were handed out). In total, I've been on the ward three times and each time gets easier. The last time was last November. Here's to making 2015 a ward-free year!!
I nominate:
Becky @ Vintage Pink Basket
Kirsty @ Making Waves
Nicki @ Domestic Bloggess
Angie @ Angie's 2 Cents
Yay! Thanks for doing this. Also- Lamb is one of my favourite books. I think I peed my pants multiple times reading it.
