Christmas 2007

Rather than recap the past few days with lengthy paragraphs and long, wordy sentences, I thought I'd hand out a few awards. Here is the best and worst from Christmas 2007:

Best Meal: leftover turkey supper at my mom and dad's on Christmas Day

Best Christmas Present That I Gave: the shadow box I made for Mom that was filled with decorations us kids made in 1983

Best Forced Reaction to A Present: "Oooooooohhhhh! That's really interesting! Uh, I'm so glad they make purses with cell phone holders now!" (in response to the flashy black and pink sequined, sparkly, pretty-sure-its-target-demographic-is-for-tweens Betty Boop purse I received from Mike's mom...but it's the thought the counts, right?)

Best Gift in the $5.00 Gift Exchange (played with Mike's family): the scratched lotto ticket that already won $3.00

Loudest Get Together: Christmas Eve supper with Mike's family...between the little kids screaming about wanting to open presents NOW and the Transformers movie blaring on the TV, most of the night was spent nodding and smiling while pretending like I could hear everything that was being said to me

Most Unexpected Fall: the snapping of my ankle causing me to crumple into an instantaneous ball while outside having a smoke break on Christmas Eve. Once I realized it was twisted and not broken, only then was it good for a laugh.

Most Romantic Moment: when my brother Brady proposed to his girlfriend in front of all of us. He called us into the living room claiming he had a game to play. Once we were all gathered, he delivered a beautiful monologue, got down on one knee and popped the question! Congratulations Brady and Kristan!

Shortest Sleep: the nap from 4:30am to 9:00am on Christmas Day. Mike and I were up until the wee hours of the morn trying to get our wireless router working so we could play with the iPod Touch. So cool...so very, very cool! Mike's reasoning for buying it for me was that for once in our lives, we were going to be one of the first people to own something technologically new. Granted, something bigger, better, faster and sleeker will come along in a matter of months, but for right now, we'll enjoy being first. Did I mention it is so very, very cool?

Favourite Reading Gift: it's a tie between "Secrets From The Vinyl Cafe" by Stuart McLean and "That Extra Half An Inch" by Victoria Beckham

Favourite Musical Gift: "Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier!" by Corb Lund

Best Boxing Day Deal: the three cardigans I bought...regularly priced, they would have cost me $180. On sale? $45! Woo hoo!

So that's a little glimpse into my Christmas 2007. The next few days are going to be filled with naps, shopping, a trip to Saskatoon and hopefully back to a more normal diet. Unless something profound strikes me, I'm taking a little blogging break until New Year's Eve. This year, instead of scribing in my journal and recapping the best/worst of the year, what I've learned/accomplished and what I hope to achieve in the coming year, I will post it here. This will give me a few days to work on it. Have a great week!
