While my parents are away, I am taking care of their house and their properties. Part of my duties require checking their answering machine everday, writing down the messages and then deleting them off the machine. I can do this all from my phone so I check it a few times a day (just in case a renter has an emergency). Yesterday, there was a very quiet message that I thought was from my nephew in Germany. It sounded like a little kid and I thought I could hear "I love you very much" in one part of the message. After deleting all the other messages, I kept playing this one over and over until I was finally able to hear all the words. This is what the person said: "I want to have sex with you. Cuz yer so sexy. An' I love you very much. I'll be waiting." Yeah...there's a meeting that never happened and in my opinion, with foreplay like that, it's probably for the best.
So then last night at 2:44am, my phone rang. It was showing a private number and since my parents have made several unsuccessful calls from Thailand (which consist of me hearing my mom say, "Hello? I can't hear anything! Hello? There's nothing happening! Hello? Ken! Go change your shirt! It's too warm for long sleeves! Hello? No...there's no dial tone!" and me sporatically shouting, "Hello?"), I decided to answer the phone. Given previous phone calls like the one above, I just pushed the 'Talk' button, but I didn't say anything since I was half expecting to hear my mom critiquing my dad's clothing choices for the day. What I heard, instead, was two teenage boys talking.
I can't really remember what they were saying to each other, but when the caller realized that someone had picked up, he said, "This is Cody Allen calling. I hope this is that cop's house cuz I just wanted to say you're a f***king pig cuz you work for those f**king c**ts". And then he hung up. The first thought that went through my head was "How rude!" ala Stephanie Tanner from Full House.
By this time, I was totally awake, full of questions and analyzing the situation. We have a police officer who lives next door so I guessed that this kid maybe followed the officer home, and somehow got our addresses mixed up. Then, using the Henderson directory, he could have looked up our telephone number. But that doesn't work for two reason: 1) although this kid is obviously stupid (after all, he did give his name), he should be smart enough to know that cops have unlisted phone numbers and addresses and (2) we don't list our address so you couldn't do a reverse search and find our phone number based on the address. So that theory was out the window. By that time, I was tired again and couldn't think up anymore possible scenarios, so I just went back to bed. Weird.
