IDK, My BFF Jill?

Back in January, Mike and I bought another cell phone. When Mike moved over to work for another scaffolding company, he moved in to a brand new camp where the pay phones hadn't been hooked up yet. We use the pay-as-you-go plan, so there aren't any nasty surprises on the phone bill. So, without the payphones, Mike was ripping through close to $100 a week in cell phone minutes (he was phoning home four times a day though - during coffee and lunch breaks). That's when we realized we could scoop another phone and text each other throughout the day for only .15 cents per text.

Now, I won't say that I ever hated the people you see standing in line and hammering away on their cell phones like miniature computers, but I will admit that I never saw the appeal. What on earth could you possibly have to say to someone so badly that it just couldn't wait? Even with cell phones, it took me a long time to come around to seeing the use of them. I figured, if you've got something to say to me, catch me at home. If not, leave a message. We finally bought our first cell phone after I hit the ditch one night in March 2004 on my way home from Saskatoon. Since then, we rarely used the phone. Once in awhile, it was used to catch me at the grocery store when Mike reminded me of something extra we needed. And it's always used when we are heading out on the highway, just to let the other person know when we were supposed to be home.

But lately, I have become one of them. Yes, I am that person standing in line, texting on my phone. And I still feel sort of silly doing it, but it is really a great way to keep in contact with Mike. I can share with him the little funny tidbits that happen in my day or I can simply text him to tell him I love him and that I hope he's keeping warm. When we first started texting, we typed in full words. But now, we are down to the "C U in a bit" and the "When R U going 2 B home?". So when I spied these videos on Gigglesugar, I had to post them. This is what Mike and I have become. It's only a matter of time before we start speaking like this at home.
