Ingenious Marketing

While we were in Los Angeles, we kept seeing very odd billboards. The first one we spotted simply said, "I hate Sarah Marshall". Throughout our three days, we saw signs that said "My mom never liked you Sarah Marshall", "I am over you, Sarah Marshall", "You do look fat in those jeans, Sarah Marshall" and "You suck, Sarah Marshall". At first we wondered whether it was just some rich guy who was getting revenge on his ex-girlfriend. Then, we noticed a web address, telling us to go to ihatesarahmarshall.com. Once there, we discovered the rants of a man who despises his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Marshall. For those people who don't know celebrities from regular joes, they would never pick up on the fact that Sarah Marshall looks eerily similar to Kristen Bell.

In short, the whole "I hate Sarah Marshall" campaign, including the blog, is all part of a PR stunt to promote the movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", to which I say "Bravo!". Now, this whole stunt isn't enough to get me to actually go see the movie, but it is enough for me to talk about it. Kudos to the PR person who came up with that idea.
