Valeria's Post

This was the post that Valeria did about the arrival of the little care package I sent to her daughter, Elena. Valeria's words are just so...smooth and soft and, well, it's like reading chocolate. I don't know how else to describe it! Because Valeria's blog is private, if you want to read it, let me know and Valeria will send you an invitation. Trust me...it's worth the read :-)

This morning we received a huge envelope from far, far away. It has travelled from the heart of Canada to our home, it is from J! Elena was away with her father and when they came back I showed her the envelope, saying it was something for her. She was so excited and couldn't wait to see what was inside.

Before opening it, though, I explained her it was from J and showed her J's photos on the computer and then I showed her on Google Earth how far away J lives and all the journey the envelope had made to arrive here in her little hands from Canada! - "Canada!" she repeated.

So we went to Elena's big green desk and took out all the contents. I read her J's letter, so sweet, and she was so busy examining all the stickers and the candys. She loved the winter stickers with the snow flakes, boots, hats and scarves and she understood how cold it is over there and how our friends in Canada have to shovel the snow away! I asked her -"What would you like to tell J?" and she replied -"That I have been good!"

J is such a dear friend whom I have met casually on the web. I commented one of her posts and from there began our friendship, about four months ago. I never imagined that such good friend could be made through a blog! J is such a special woman and I deeply admire her. Sometimes we chat on Facebook and we go on for hours, until I am too tired to continue because, hey, 7 hours divide us! I like to learn things and customs about her country and I have been particularly curious to know, for example, how they live through a long cold and snowy winter...sometimes their temp. drops to -30 and less!!! We share recipes and exchange photos to show each other our homes and lives. I so much wish we will visit them one day or that they could come over to Italy...

Later in the afternoon our friend Sofia came to us and they played with some of the many stickers J sent. They used all the Disney's ones, as they know well all those characters! Then they attached Cinderella and her accessories on the fridge door and then took out all the little ponies!

Then Elena discovered the special pencil and draw, draw, draw...and tasted some M&Ms...

J, how sweet of you to send these cute things to Elena... I think she learnt a lot today and you've made the day a special one!

  1. Oh, it's so nice to see my writing on your blog! You're too kind, really... English is not my language, so your appreciation is even more flattering...
This morning it is still snowing but as the flakes touch the ground, they melt, sadly...
You know what? I dreamt of you! You came over to Italy. Strangely we were staying at Filippo's mother's. You had a pair of khaki-green trousers and a white tank. I came down from the bedroom and saw you were in the garden, on the lawn enjoying the sun on your face...

  4. Christine and Nikki,

Just to let you know...when Valeria's blog switched to private, the translation widget no longer worked. So what I do now is I have Google Translate saved to my favourites and I copy and paste her text into Translate. It does all the text at once so it's fairly easy reading. But the translator does have trouble with some words (using "he" for "she") and can't translate others. Still, you always get the idea of the post. Happy reading!
