Today marks a full two years that you have been in our lives and I can't imagine life without you. While reading "Marley & Me", I bawled my head off as I sat and stroked your velvet ears and cried about the inevitable day when you will no longer be with us. Yes, you can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Like when you hide under the van and refuse to come out unless a cheese slice is waved as a peace offering. Or how you constantly bolt across the street to say "Hi!!" to whatever dog, person or plastic bag may be going by. And I really wish you would quit sneaking downstairs to the cats' litter box to steal poop-sicles. How any animal's feces is palatable is beyond me.
Those few negatives aside, you really are the most wonderful dog in the world (for us, anyways). You only bark when prompted (again, when that scrumptious cheese slice is waved in your face), you love a good nap just as much as Mike does and you are content to just lay and have your ears rubbed while I read. But you also have your spirited side. You LOVE to dig holes...in the snow and in the dirt (although you much prefer the snow because it means you don't have to bath after). You are a superstar on the agility course. You are oh-so-gentle with Joel and you let him pet you, even if it's a little rough for your taste. You will do anything for a treat and I love how you get frustrated if you're not getting the goodie right away (as in you're not doing the trick right). You get agitated and start pulling out all the tricks at once just to cover all your bases...you know you're going to get that treat one way or another!
I don't know how many more years we have left together, but I am looking forward to more cuddling, more walks, more agility courses and all the laughter that happens through out. I continue to tell people that I am not a dog-person. I am a Shandi-person. You really are a one of a kind...we love you Shana.
She has such a sweet face :) It's so hard to imagine life without them! I am so glad that Kiwi is okay, no cancer, and am pleased to hear about Shandi eating poo. Kiwi doesn't eat her own, but she likes to eat the dried rabbit poo out of our rock gardens from last winter. I used to get concerned that she would get sick, but she hasn't yet, so I say clean it up for us!
