One Year Ago

One year ago, this weekend, Mike and I left on our trip of a life time (so far). We left for Vegas on Saturday morning at 8:00 am and by supper time on Sunday, we were in Sin City. I talked about Vegas with my counsellor yesterday. The reason I brought it up was because lately I have been full of stress, angst, a feeling of being overwhelmed, etc. And Vegas? Well, Vegas was the most free-ing week of my life. It was a week of pure and utter gluttony. And I loved every minute of it.

No kids. No Weight Watchers. Free booze. Tons of shopping. HUGE buffets. Celebrity sightings. I quit quit smoking. A massive hotel room. All of it was pure awesomeness. Words just can't describe it. It was just so...so....uninhibited.

When I look back on that week, I am so thankful we took the time to do that together. I am also thankful we took the boys to California earlier in the year (otherwise, we would have felt guilty taking off on a big trip like that and the boys not getting anything). The trip was a treat to ourselves before we started the in-vitro treatments. It was also the last time I consumed any amount of alcohol and, boy, was it fun :-)

I really wish we had the excess money to do another trip like that. Instead, our money is going into the extras for the basement renos and baby gear. Don't get me wrong - I am more than happy to finally be spending money on a baby. But, holy man, what I wouldn't give for another week like that :-)
