I had a meeting this afternoon with the uber talented Dani from Van Steelandt Photography about doing maternity/newborn photos. I knew I sort of knew Dani from high school days, but I don't think we ever had a single conversation in the time we "knew" each other. Within a matter of minutes, we were chatting and sharing as though we had known each other our whole lives. It's interesting how quickly two people can feel comfortable sharing personal things with one another (especially when I'm typically a fairly shy/reserved person during initial meetings). I thought we would meet for 15 minutes and discuss the photo package. Almost an hour and half went by before I realized I needed to get home so Colby could get to work!
The maternity photos are slated for sometime in early December (once we look at Mike's work schedule). It's funny how right now, even though I am the biggest I have ever been, I feel absolutely beautiful...on the inside anyways. My belly hasn't fully "popped" yet and, because I'm plus sized, I still have that nasty ridge where my belly kind of folds over on itself, right around the belly button. But, it is growing and I'm hoping that ridge disappears. I would really, really like to do belly baring shots, but if I don't feel like the baby belly is co-operating, than the photo session will just have to remain a fully clothed one.
I've decided to invest in quality photos for a number of reasons. First, this may be my only child. Second, we skimped out on our wedding photos (we had a work-friend take them) and I was horribly disappointed with the outcome. At the time, I couldn't imagine investing $2000 on "just pictures". So, the money we never paid for wedding pics will be invested in belly/baby pics. I had another option for a photographer - she is just getting started in her own photography business and, while I know it's important to give up-and-comers a chance, I don't want just anyone shooting this belly...I want a pro :-)
So go check out Dani's website and take a look at the maternity/baby categories. Did I mention how excited I am that my face and belly will be gracing the site in just over six weeks? I guess this means we better get a move on getting the nursery done if we want photos taken in there :-)
Her photos are beautiful! Good choice.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your pictures!
ReplyDeleteI say go with both clothed and some belly bearing. No one says you a) have to get them or b) have to post them if you don't want to, but at least you have the option once they're shot.
Sometimes when we look at ourselves in a mirror we aren't able to focus on the beauty like we would once we see it in person in a picture. Take the chance!
This is a great idea, Jyl! I love my photos of that magical time when my belly was like a huge watermelon, although I didn't have them taken by a professionist... I wish I had, though.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't you post a good photo of yourself NOW? I have no idea of how you look now. Tanti baci xxxxxxxxxxxx
Valeria...I promise that I will post my own pics of my baby belly very soon. I've just been waiting for it to look a little more like a pregnant tummy and not just a chubby one :-)
