The nursery will be pink and chocolate brown. We can't start the nursery until the basement is finished. Thankfully, the last of the flooring will be installed this Thursday and then Colby can move back downstairs. I'm hoping to get the carpets cleaned and to start painting before the weekend is done. Tomorrow, I'm going to Canadian Tire to buy the cutest pink chandelier. As I type that, I'm shaking my head thinking, "If it turns out to be a boy, that's one more thing you'll have to return". Whatever. I'll deal with it later if I need to.
I went to a consignment sale a few weeks ago. As I walked in to the building, I told myself I would only buy unisex clothing. When I saw the racks upon racks of baby girl clothes, I went ballistic. I scooped 15 outfits for under $20 in a matter of minutes (this particular sale can get ugly pretty quickly). How do you say no to deals like that?
As I wander up and down the aisles in Walmart or Superstore, I oogle over all the pretty pink things there are to buy...blankets, bibs, soothers, socks, sheets, mobiles, hats, snowsuits, sweaters...there are just sooooooo many things I could be buying right now, but I need to show some self control. Honestly, my head is just swimming with all the things there are left to buy and there are only 10 weeks left to go!
So, I need to ask...for those of you who found out the sex before bay-bee was born, did you start buying in particular colours or did you stick to unisex colours until you knew for sure?
I only knew with my 3rd, and I already had a healthy supply of both genders (plus unisex) clothing in rubbermaids. So my opinion probably doesn't help much.
ReplyDeleteEven so, I did buy a few "nicer" outfits that were gender-specific particularly for the first week of life and it's many photo shoots (ie. all the firsts: coming home from the hospital, first time at church, first time meeting so-and-so) because the ones in storage were looking pretty used.
I think it's fine for you to buy lots of pink if you want your daughter to wear lots of pink. Enjoy what makes you happy! This time (last trimester & newborn period) go by very quickly.
However, a FEW yellow, green, light blue, orange onesies, sleepers, etc. are nice if you have a baby boy later, or you just want to give so hand-me-downs to a friend later and your friend has a boy. Also, another thing I learnt is not everything has to have pink on it. I know most jeans, overalls, etc. are flared now, but if you can get some with no little flower on the bottom, you will be able to use it for a boy in the future. Actually I just read an article that in recent years ALL baby clothing has become gender-specific and I can totally see that.
With my first child, although he was a boy, I was able to use most things for our daughter, just paired it with a pink shirt. You could get packs of onesies that were plain white. I had a few pairs of Robeez that were gender-neutral. Things like that. Now the jeans look very boyish and the girls have a flare, like I said. Even onesies & sleepers are very specific. Just a note of interest.
Do you really think they could be wrong after 2 ultrasounds ?? lol
ReplyDeleteThe clothes are cuuuttteee !!
The hour after I found out I was having a girl - I went crazy and didn't stop. Everything is pink and I loved it!! I think you are good to go with the pink!! Congrats & Good Luck!
ReplyDeletePINK ALL THE WAY!!! I knew Kristen was a girl, and the ultrasound was prtty sure... went hog wild, EVERYTHING was in pink, and she was named as she came out of me...ewww. I know, but...that is what happens!!!
ReplyDeleteGo hard or go home is what I say!! I already have most of the stuff for princess toews...oooh that said, I am coming on the 11th...Mike should have given you a message...can't wait to catch up!
Jessica...I know what you mean with the gender-neutral clothes being done away with. When I was looking for unisex clothes, it was REALLY tough to find onesies that didn't either have flowers or trucks on them. I hate how stores have huge divisions between "here are the girl clothes and here are the boy clothes and there's nothing in between". I think that's why I'm so excited to finally be buying one certain colour.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I am in love with the idea of my little girl wearing pink pink pink. But I also have some orange, brown, green and blue things for her to wear. I have the most adorable silk green pair of Japanese pajamas (handed down from my sister's boy) that I can't wait for her to wear!
I like your idea of finding unisex jeans...I'll have to keep an eye out for things like that.
Thanks for your input!
