Four Weeks Old

Dear Katelyn,

I can't believe that it was just 28 short days ago that you came into this world. Since the moment you arrived, with your wee little grunts, my life has been consumed by only you. Everything else has happily fallen to the wayside. You are my first thought when I wake up in the morning and the last thought before I close my eyes. In these four short weeks, you have brought more joy into my life than I ever could have imagined.

When the doctor announced you were in fact a girl, I started to cry. Of course I would have loved a son just as much, but I was over-the-moon excited to hear I had a daughter. We have jumped into the wonderful world of pink and all things girlie...hats, skirts, shoes, dolls, teddy bears....all of it pink pink pink.

Your daddy is very much in love with you...you already have him wrapped around your little finger. You can't squawk for more than a second before he scoops you up and rocks you from side to side. Daddy and I even argue over who gets to hold you...neither of us want to give you up.

I have loved every minute of these past four weeks...even the moments where you are wide awake and I am ready to crawl back to bed. You are an extremely content little girl. You cry out once to let us know you are either hungry or wet. Other than that, you lay quietly and look around at the world. You and I have logged a lot of time in the living room, cuddling together and watching episode after episode of CSI. We also spend a lot of time, rocking in the glider in your nursery. Long after you fall asleep, I continue to sit and rock you. I love listening to your little sighs, coos and hums. I love to marvel at your perfect little fingers and toes.

You love to pee when your diaper is off. You don't like having your face wiped. You love to be in the big jet tub with me. You don't like baths in your little plastic tub. You love staring at lights. You don't like if I cough while holding you. You love to grab at your bottle while eating. You don't like having to wait to be fed. You love to stretch and kick while having your diaper changed. You don't like being swaddled. You love to sit in your bouncy chair. You don't like being strapped into your car seat.

I can't believe how much you have grown and changed in these last four weeks. I'm excited, yet sad, to see how much you will change throughout the next four. As badly as I want you to stay little, I know you have to grow up. That's why I'm relishing in every waking moment that I have with you. I love you more than you will ever know.

Love,

Mommy

You know, as I was reading the first paragraph of the post I was so moved... That's exactly how I feel, except I should read ...it was just 4 years and three months ago that you came..... This to tell you that what you are feeling now will never fade... Katelyn will always be the first thing in your life...

  4. Wow she is so beautiful! Love those big bright eyes! Your post makes me wish I could have another little one, and reminds me of when mine was a month old (and I still wish I had a digital camera back then!!).

And one thing about babies growing up; you don't want them to get bigger, but, impossibly, they just get cuter and sweeter and facinate you more the older they get!

  8. The hat was a gift from my friend Dixie (a friend of hers in Winnipeg makes them).

The photos are by the fabulous Jen McDougall of McBabyphotos...she did such an amazing job!! As much as I love taking photos, I'm no where near her level of skill!
