My Happy Place

There is one place in my house that, no matter what the rest of the house looks like, is always tidy, clean and orderly.  From day one, I have made sure to keep my pantry organized and neat.  I probably shouldn't get as big of a sense of accomplishment from this small act, but I do.  And as stupid as it sounds, if I'm having a crappy day, sometimes just opening the pantry door and looking at everything all neatly lined up makes me feel better.

Mike knows better than to even bother putting groceries away into the pantry because he knows I'm just going to come along behind him and re-order things.  The motto of, "A place for everything and everything in its place" definitely applies here.  The items are grouped into different categories according to theme (baking goods, canned goods, pastas etc), how frequently they are used (pasta and oatmeal are on the lower cupboards, ketchup and cereal are within easy reach), and size (coffee cans and pet food on the floor).

In keeping with my OCD, all labels MUST be facing out.  And it must be the English label...NOT French.  As my sister pointed out,  not only am I obsessive-compulsive, I'm also a racist.

This is pre-grocery shopping...normally I don't like there to be any spaces :-)

  1. This reminds me of Julia Robert's movie "Sleeping with the Enemy". Check it out, lol. You can come organize my pantry anytime. :-)

  2. I know exactly what part you're talking about...I've thought of that several times while putting away the groceries. Mike has commented that it's sort of creepy how things get re-arranged within moments of his rifling through the pantry - he doesn't even hear me open the doors, so from time to time, I like to sing the Psycho music while I do it :-)

  4. I wish I had a touch of your OCD! I will be doing some serious organizing next week and I am dreading it already. I have zero skills when it comes to organizing things in a way that makes sense. It drives Matt crazy....and my mom...which I don't mind.
