I have a lot of old things in the house that I hang on to because I treasure them (special mementos or memorabilia), but I don't neccessarily use them. So here are ten things in my house that I've had for a long time that are still in use:
1) My teddy bear - 18 years
Yes, I am 30 and I still sleep with a teddy bear that my grandparents gave me for Christmas in 1991. I don't cuddle with it because it's a security thing...I just like to have something to wrap my arms around. A pillow could do the same trick, but my bear is broken-in in all the right spots :-)
2) Vicks Vapo-Rub - 30+ years
There is a jar of Vicks Vapo-Rub in my medicine cabinet that has been around since before I was born and, yes, I still use it. We do have a newer jar that Mike or the boys will use if need be, but when I'm sick, I like to dip into my jar.
3) My brown GAP bunnyhug - 13 years
I bought this bunnyhug when I was in grade 12 and I still wear it. The fact that it still looks brand new speaks to its quality.
4) My hairbrush - 18 years
It may gross out people to know I've been using the same brush since I was twelve. It is black and purple and I bought it during my Sweet Valley Twins days when I LOVED the colour purple. Surprisingly, I've never watched that movie.
5) My Jurassic Park coffee mug - 17 years
I bought this mug before I even drank coffee, but I loved the movie and had to snap up anything and everything associated with it. I also owned a plastic Jurassic Park lunch kit that I actually took my lunch to school in. I was one cool cat back then :-)
Okay, so maybe this wasn't the best topic to start off my Ten On Tuesday, since I'm at a loss for five more items. But if I hadn't thrown out my alarm clock or my pink silk boxer shorts, I would have had a total of seven. It's my blog and if I want to list only five things instead of ten, I can do just that. Get over it :-)
i have a teddy bear - it was a charity bear you were able to buy from the bay back in the day that i got for christmas when i was 6 so i am approaching 25 years with said teddy bear and i sleep with him every night. it's not a security thing for me either, it's just something that i need to hold. everybody makes funny, glad to see i am not the only person who does this!
ReplyDeleteI also have a charity bear from The Bay from when I was 8, so 21 years ago. I only stopped sleeping with it when I got married. But that thing was so nice to hug. So soft and squishy. Love that bear!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm very happy to hear I'm not the only one who sleeps/has slept with a teddy bear! You both have me beat for the length of time...congrats! lol
