Four Months Old

Dear Katelyn,

As I type this, you are snuggled up in a blanket and stretched across the computer desk in front of me. You are dozing off to sleep, but not quite there. Your left arm is waving back and forth in the air, but your eyes are closed and you are working that soother like nobody's business. You still love to have your face covered in order to go to sleep. It's almost as though you would have preferred being born in Saudi Arabia.

You're still working on your giggles. They are few and far between, but when they happen they sound like the greatest symphony ever composed. My one piece of advice would be to stop giggling when Mommy burps - you're only encouraging me and I don't want you growing up knowing your mother can belch the alphabet.

We have started calling you a Wunderkid because you are just so amazing. You sleep for 10-12 hours at night (and you fall asleep within minutes of being swaddled). You travel in the car like a rockstar. You are extremely content and calm. You are able to self soothe. You fall back asleep during your naps when Mommy's not quite ready to get up yet. And you have never, not once spit up. Add to this your uber happy personality and we are left with one perfect baby.

You love being read to. You don't care what the book is, as long as you can reach out and try to turn the pages. You love your crinkle toy and your rattles. You love to sit on Daddy's lap while he's watching hockey. You enjoy our walks and refuse to fall asleep for fear of missing seeing something new (even though we walk the same route each time). You LOVE being in the jet tub.

Even though you have yet to perfect your giggles, you have your smile down pat. You are finally used to having a camera shoved in your face and you need very little prompting before you let loose with your open-mouthed, crinkle-eyed grins. They are just. too. precious.  Thank you for being the sweet girl you are.
