An Interesting Observation

After Mike read my last post, he commented that I'm not always socially shy/awkward.  Mike pointed out that last Wednesday, at Sweet Baby K's premiere tradeshow :-), I was right back into my "gas station persona" (as he called it).  When I worked at the Husky gas station, I think I may have been shy when I first started, but I don't really remember.  What I do know is that I really enjoyed chatting and joking around with customers and I didn't feel awkward at all.

After Mike made the comment, I had to stop and question what is the difference between meeting someone new as "me" (with the chance for a possible friendship to develop) and meeting someone as "president and CEO of Sweet Baby K".  I couldn't really come up with an answer beyond this - when I'm in the 'saleswoman' role, I am being myself, but I'm not looking to become friends with the person, so I don't have to show the real me or any amount of vulnerability.  Does that make sense?  I could continue trying to elaborate, but it would likely just be saying the above thing, but in several different ways.

If you'll excuse me, I have two upcoming tradeshows to prepare for :-)

  1. I have to agree with Mike, we don' know each other that well, but chatting on the phone is easy. I don't sense any stress on your part at all.
Can't wait for your visit...you can be socially awkward then. LOL!
