Welcome To The SBK Tour

We're delighted that you could join us today for this special tour of Sweet Baby K headquarters.  We kindly ask that you extinguish all smoking materials, turn off all cellphones and keep your hands and feet inside the trolley at all times.  Just a reminder that flash photography is strictly prohibited.  If everyone is ready, we shall begin...

This first room that we are passing is where SBK all began.  This tiny ottoman is where the president and CEO slaved away creating the delicate hairclips and headbands that have made SBK what it is today.  If you listen closely, you can still hear the faint echo of f-bombs bouncing off these living room walls.  Those are the cries of Ms. President, as she had never worked with a glue gun before.  Let's continue on, shall we?

This next room is where all the SBK inventory was originally housed.  At the time, Ms. President's young baby wasn't crawling, so it was quite safe to have the stock laying about.  This is also the room where the majority of the photo shoots took place, as you can see by the headbands laying on the black board.  Let's carry on...

As we move into the kitchen area, we will pass by the main hub of SBK...the iMac.  This fine piece of machinery plays a key role in the company.  It is where the President makes all of her purchases, edits her photos, maintains the website and goofs around on Failblog when she needs a break.

We are now going to retreat into the lower levels of the headquarters.  Ms. President discovered that the upstairs space was becoming very messy, very quickly and this was not to her liking.  So, she decided the basement would be a better place to create her wondrous goodies.  This first room that we are passing is the technical area of SBK.  This is where the invoices and shipping labels are printed.

This next room is...um...well, it's the bathroom.  We don't need to discuss what sort of "business" takes place in here, do we?  Why is this even part of the tour? Let's move things along...

We are now en route to the final stop of the...hey!  Everybody look out the left side of the tour trolley!  Oh my this is a treat!  We are getting a rare glimpse of the Husbanderous Videogamus in his natural state! Shhhhhh!  Let's continue on as quietly as possible so we don't disturb his championship game....

Here we are on the final stop of the tour...the new SBK production room!  This is where all the inventory is currently housed and where all the production takes place.  Let's take a closer look at the room...

In this corner, we have the packaging and shipping area.  This is where all the items are wrapped up and either put into gift bags (for those picking up locally) or else into shipping containers.  There is a comfy seat for those who make private viewing appointments (why does that sound like it's a peep show?).  And, since this is Saskatchewan, there is a portable heater under the table to keep the President's feet toasty warm!

This is the crafting table where all the hair clips, bows and headbands are created.  Let's take a closer look at some of the items adorning the walls...

When we first entered the room, some of you might have noticed this portrait hanging on the wall.  This is one of the President's favourite pieces.  It was drawn on Charles Bridge in Prague in 1998.  Now, I should mention that the President suffers from low-self esteem and, when the artist was finished and Ms. Prez caught her first glimpse of the drawing, she thought to herself, "If I really look like this, I'm not as bad looking as I think I am".  It now hangs on her wall to remind her that, even on the bad days, there is beauty in her.

Some of you might not know that Ms. President was a crazy-cat-lady in her younger days.  Not "crazy" in the sense that she had 8000 of them, but crazy as in "crazy in love".  This is a photo of her first beloved cat, Desch, who passed away in 2002.  Ms. President has a huge soft spot for all animals, so it's only right that she immortalizes them on her office walls :)

This next photo depicts Ms. President's other great love...Corb Lund.  She has been a fan of theirs for more than ten years.  When she had laryngitis and couldn't attend one of their shows, her brother got the drummer to write her a get well note.  For you true Corb lovers, you'll know the significance of the five dollar bill.  That autographed piece of money will be worth a ton some day :)

Lastly, we have a a framed photo of the SBK logo.    It serves as a reminder to those days when she used to slave away, at that little tiny ottoman, and one day dream about bigger and better work spaces.

We appreciate your taking the time to join us on our little tour.  Before you leave, you will be strip searched, so if you could start removing all your clothes, that'd be real great.

  1. Love the tour. If you have another baby, you're going to have to start another company right? Can't play favourites like my mom always said. What kind of company could you imagine if you had a boy?...

  2. I feel like I should show you a picture of the Fuzzynoggins HQ, but you'd be very scared. At any moment there could be an avalanche. I'm in over my head.
