Seven Weeks Later

It's been seven weeks since I face planted off the quad and I'm still reeling from its effects.  My leg that was crushed under the handle bars is still swollen and numb, but most of the bruising has faded.  I had an ultrasound done on my entire leg to make sure there were no blood clots in the veins.  Thankfully, there were none.  The swelling on my leg is fluid and blood that needs time to be reabsorbed into my body.  My leg just has a constant, dull pain to it, even though it's numb.  And driving for extended periods of time causes a lot of discomfort.

The swelling in my wrist has disappeared, but I've been left with a large lump on the outer bone of my hand.  Shaking hands with people causes me to almost drop to my knees.  Although the outer bruises and swelling have disappeared, there is obviously internal damage left over.  Flexing my wrist the wrong way causes an electric type shock all the way to my elbow.  I have lost most of my strength in it (as evident when I tried to pick up a large, glass display case and damn near dropped it) so will need physio to help with that.  My tailbone is no longer as sore as it was, but if I lean a certain way, I can still feel the aches and pains.

The weirdest leftover effect is where I scraped my forehead.  It was a minor scrape and has long since disappeared and yet if I touch that part of my head, it is extremely sensitive.  Like I said...weird.

While these aches are annoying (and painful), I haven't let them hinder the work that needs to be done in my store.  Because the renos are taking longer than they should be (isn't that how it goes though?), I am needing to do as much behind the scenes prep as possible.  This way, once the renos and painting are done, I'll be able to just roll out the racks, set up the wall fixtures and away we go :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone :)

  1. I am glad to hear you are feeling better after such a horrible accident. It's unfortunate, but often soft tissue injuries take longer to heal and have more lasting pain than broken bones. I hope that physio (and maybe some massage too) can get you back into tip top shape!

  2. Oh wow, what a horrible accident. I agree with Angela, physio is a good idea. I have dislocated my tailbone five times and a physiotherapist who specializes in that can put it back for you. Your family dr. will say advil, but it needs to be put back in place.
