Because the lease is rapidly coming to a close on my store, we are in the final weeks of clearing everything out. This means there is a lot of stuff to sell so that we don't have to move it all home. Most of the consignors have picked up their clothes, so it's just racks, fixtures and other things like that that are left to sell. Some of the items included the "homey" items I had at the store...fridge, microwave, tassimo etc. It can be quite overwhelming not only having so many things to list, but having them listed on multiple selling sites!
The most trouble I've had so far is with the mini-fridge. I had people fighting over it on this Varage Sale site to the point where a woman offered me $40 more than what I was asking, even though she wasn't the first to inquire about it. I went with her. Bad move. She texted the one night to say she was coming to get it so I zipped over to the store to shine it up and push it closer to the door. And then I waited. And waited. And waited. I waited for 45 minutes for her to show up. When the clock hit 9:00pm, I left as it was well passed K's bedtime. She texted me after to say she was at the store but that her cell her died. How was she texting me then? I told her it was too late and it would have to be the next day.
I didn't contact her the next day as I wasn't too excited about having the same situation play out. But, she texted me and asked if she could come right away and get the fridge. This was at 8:00pm. I said "Sure". I told her to text me when she got there. I loaded both kids up and killed some time by taking a coffee to Mike at work. By 8:30, I still hadn't heard from her. I figured I would swing by the store on my way home to see if there was a vehicle waiting. Nope. No vehicle. The stupid voice in my head said, "Just give her fifteen minutes". So I pulled into the parking lot and waited. And waited. And waited.
All of a sudden, I got a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. I don't know what I was so worried about...I didn't know if this was a set-up or if I was going to get rolled or what. But my gut said to get out of there...I don't need to sell the fridge that bad that I need to be sitting in a dark parking lot at 9:00 at night. So I left. As soon as I got the kids inside, I got a text that they were there waiting. I apologized and said I had waited but it was too late for me to meet them and that my kids were going to bed. They said they understood and would try again tomorrow.
Fast forward to this morning when I received an email from a different potential buyer about the fridge. He asked if we could meet at 8:30 this morning. I thought it was a bit early, but I felt better about meeting someone in daylight when the other businesses in the strip mall were open. Am I ever glad I went...talk about Hottie McHotterson! Phew! I ended up selling it to him for $20 less than the asking price (because that's all he had on him - he thought maybe because it was a store, he could pay debit). I'm pretty sure I would have just given him the fridge for free if he would have asked! Talk about a great way to start the day! I only wish I would have actually done my hair instead of looking like a crazy house mom.
Here's hoping the rest of the kijiji transactions can involve that level of hotness!!
What are the chances you have a talk clothes rack hooky grabber thing available???
