The Great Flu of 2015

It all started last Thursday morning.  Mike came home from his night shift to discover that Andrew had puked all over his crib.  I had heard nothing (my mama ears normally hear every roll over and whimper) so woke up to the stench of barf.  A quick bath and a change of sheets was in order, along with a dosing of Advil.  Throughout the day, Andrew remained quite warm and sluggish with diarrhea, but no more vomiting.  We cut him off of milk and that's all the poor lil duder wanted to drink.  He wanted nothing to do with Pedialyte or apple juice cut with water.

The next morning, we woke up to Andrew COVERED in poo.  There was no point in trying to salvage his sleeper as there was poop all the way up to his shoulders.  Another bath and more changing of the sheets.  More Advil.  More cuddles and whimpers from both mama and baby.  Andrew was very warm and the Advil didn't seem to be doing much.  We were worried about him becoming dehydrated as he was refusing to drink anything but milk.  I gave in and poured him a bottle.  Within minutes, I was on my hands and knees cleaning up milk barf while Mike and Andrew were both in the tub.

On Saturday, we took Andrew to the doctor, just to double check that he wasn't dehydrated and that it wasn't something more serious (he had been tugging at his ears).  He checked out fine, besides having some cloudy ears.  We were told to keep doing what we're doing.  Sunday was a vomit/poo free day, but Andrew was still warm and sluggish and napping a lot.  He was still refusing anything but milk but we managed to get some sips of water into him.

Monday morning...Katelyn's turn.  First thing that morning, K threw up all over the living room floor.  Poor girl couldn't make it to the bathroom.  A quick bath and a change of pjs as well as a dosing of Advil for her and she was set up on the couch.  She was super hot and slept for most of the day.  Unlike Andrew, Katelyn actually did drink water (and some gatorade).  There was a LOT of throwing up from her but she took it like a champ.  There was no whimpering or crying...she just leaned right over the tub, puked, swished with water and went back to the couch.  There was a couple of times she couldn't make it to the bathroom so our floors got a good spot cleaning!

By Tuesday morning, Andrew was on the mend and we had managed to get some water and crackers into him. Katelyn was still throwing up (as she had throughout the night as well) so she spent most of the day on the couch, periodically getting up to go to the bathroom.  Lots of naps and lots of Advil.

I wasn't feeling the greatest on Wednesday but shrugged it off as being tired from caring for two little sickies.  By Thursday, I knew it was more than just tiredness...it was my turn for the flu.  I slept all day Thursday, but thankfully only threw up once.  Coffee does not taste so good a second time around.  Mike kept checking in on me and said I was super warm and sweating.  He did a great job of taking care of me AND the house...bringing me cold clothes, Advil, drinks of water, going and buying me Gatorade and so on.  I'm so lucky to have a husband like him!

Today? We're all a little sluggish as we try to get back to normal.  Katelyn missed all of preschool and her dance this week, plus we missed our mom's group on Tuesday.  Oh well...we were not in any shape to attend activities this week!  While it's no fun being sick, I'm glad it happened this week and not next week - I have a full week of subbing lined up (at my dad's old school where he retired as principal from!) and would hate to miss any of it!

On a side note, two out of three cats are sick.  The third one is in heat.  It's just all kinds of awesomeness up in this here house!
