...without thinking or talking about Baby Taves, I just want to post some random thoughts/news from this past week. I really don't want to do baby baby baby posts everyday, but somedays I just won't be able to help myself :-)
* I am superstoked that my due date is in January. As Jessica pointed out in the comments, I can come home with baby and just cuddle up for the next four months (or five, if it snows in May again next year...seriously, WTF is up with snow in May?). I cannot stand the heat as it is, so I was just hoping I was not going to be 40 weeks preggo in +35 weather!
* Mike really wants to find out the sex, but I'm still undecided. I just feel like if we find out, I'm going to want to tell everyone and if we tell the sex, we may as well tell the name too and then it just seems like all the fun is taken out of it (well, I guess not all the fun because there still would be the actual meeting and welcoming of Baby Taves). On the flipside, knowing the sex makes planning the nursery and buying clothes that much easier. Let's be honest - you can only go so far in life with a yellow, cream and white wardrobe.
* When RUH received the bloodwork on Friday, my numbers were a bit low (which numbers to be exact, well, I'm not really sure). On Friday, the nurse said it could have been that the embryo implanted but wasn't progressing any further or else it could have just been really early detection. On Monday, I went for more bloodwork and my numbers were right where they should be! Yay for good numbers!
* I go for my first ultrasound on May 21st. The nurse said they have been able to hear the heartbeat with other babies at seven weeks, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will get to hear that little tiny bwa-bump bwa-bump bwa-bump that I have been waiting so long to hear! I will stay with my fertility doctor for the first three months of my pregnancy. After that, I can switch back to my family doctor.
* I have had zero appetite this week. I have had bits of nausea (haven't actually thrown up yet though...just that watery-throat feeling like just before you puke when you're really, really drunk) and am still super tired. With my appetite, little Joel has more on his supper plate than I do!
AND I HAVE NO DESIRE TO EAT CHOCOLATE!!
WTF IS UP WITH THAT?
THIS IS THE TIME OF MY LIFE WHEN I AM SUPPOSED TO GORGE MYSELF UNTIL I HAVE A CHOCOLATE NOSEBLEED!!!
Seriously...I normally treat myself to a handful of chocolate chips after supper (or a whole bag...same difference) and I have zero desire to go anywhere near chocolate! I went grocery shopping today and, for the first in a year, I did not buy any chocolate! I am sort of hoping this trend keeps up after Baby is born...I could stand to lose a pound or two hundred :-)
* Lastly, I want to think up a nickname instead of Baby Taves...something unisex and cute that I can refer to it as (just in case we do find out the sex and I end up actually being able to keep a secret!). So, if you have any cute ideas for nicknames, comment away!
FYI - "Sha-zam!" has already been vetoed...I am so not letting Mike have anything to do with the actual baby naming process.
Hey Jyl, we found out with the second one and it was really nice because I found myself bonding even more with the little one inside. He became Matthew long before he was born. It was nice to also have everything ready for him as well. With William we didn't find out and it was nice as well because there was the surprise as well. In my experience though I would vote to find out at the ultrasound. The moment seems to last a little longer then after hours of labour. Just my opinion though. Like I told you before, any advise I give is just what I think. Take what you want in one in ear send the rest out the other. Haha!!!! So excited for you.
ReplyDeleteAlso my sister is due beginning of November so if you would like my fetal doppler you are more than welcome to it after her baby is born.
My friend CHristy called her baby "Dill" because at the time he was the size of a dill pickle. She didn't know the sex at that time either - but I thought "Dill" was kind of cute!
ReplyDeleteYay for good numbers!
ReplyDeleteThe first baby we didn't find out the sex, because I was scared I would need the motivation of finding out what it was during the labour to keep me going (silly, I know.) Also, my husband pointed out we are not painting the nursery pink or blue, so what does it matter?
The second time we couldn't find out and I ALMOST WENT STARK RAVING MAD with curiosity -- so obviously I wish we had found out.
The third time I didn't care (we had both sexes already), but we saw accidentally, so it was kind of nice to prepare the nursery, and with two other little kids, I needed to make things as easy for myself as possible. So I think either way is fine. But if you do find out the sex, you don't necessary have to tell the name; just tell people you're undecided and want to see the baby's face before making your final decision.
Also, I think you're having a boy. I am a sugaraholic (dessert/chocolate both before & after every meal) and when pregnant with boys, I totally didn't crave desserts. But with my daughter I ate a lot of chocolate bars. Just my experience! I'm sure everyone is different!
My one friend called her baby 'cletus the fetus' until he was born. Then they named him Maddox. They did not find out the gender.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of friends who wanted to find out the gender but the baby wouldn't cooperate. So there is no certainty.
I'm due in November, and with the recovery I'm expecting c-section), I'm also quite pleased to waste away the winter months in the house.
ReplyDeleteWe tried to find out the gender of our first, but she was being a little modest. We hope to find out with this baby. We find the naming to be quite a challenge, so I look forward to having months to use the name before it's set in stone.
I went for an ultrasound at 7.5 weeks, and they were able to read the heartbeat - we didn't hear it tho. Maybe I could have asked for sound, that would have been awesome.
Our little girl was nicknamed 'stupid baby'.. that got a lot of reactions from ppl. haha.. We don't call her that now. We aren't really that horrible of parents.
I have an insane desire for chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirl - BUT I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE!! I'm sure I've had it before.
Anyway, congrats on the baby! I look forward to reading many posts about baby - since we are only 2 months apart!
When a friend of mine was pregnant, we called the baby many things. The most popular was MiniMe (like Austin Powers).
ReplyDeleteWe also called it Magma (also from Austin Powers...the movies were still new at the time...) because that was one of my silly name suggestions and it kind of stuck.
Jyl, I enjoyed so much reading this post.
ReplyDeleteI coulnd't wait to know the gender! I think it's good to know to establish a bond. In a way you begin to know the baby inside you. You name him/her, you talk to the girl/boy, you pick up clothing and stuff for her/him. We were expecting Elena all along and it was great to meet her!
That is my experience and I respect who can hold on and wait until the birth!
With Elena I was obsessed with salt. I smelled the salt (as if it smelled...) I liked the sound of salt falling on the salad, I ate bread with olive oil and salt all the time. I even had bread and salmon or bread and anchovies in the morning...ewwhhw!!!
In my opinion, there are very few surprises left in life. Therefore, we chose not to discover the sex of our baby...and were we surprised when I had a girl (I was sure it would be a boy but secretly longed for a daughter).
ReplyDeleteWe named our munchkin Peanut throughout the pregnancy. However, in your case, something a little more Hollywood would be appropriate (like Tom-Kat but suited to you and Mike) lol.
OMG! You used to be J. Lo! haha
ReplyDeleteI love Nicole's idea about combining yours and Mike's names....what if you called it "Mijy" (kind of short for midget....not funny I know but it includes both of your letters! haha). Or Jymi....but I think "Jimmy" is more for a boy. Who ever would have thought naming the fetus before naming the actual baby would be so tough!! haha good luck! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
I think 'Flake' would be cute, uh ?
