Only So Much Time Left

I had my 39 week prenatal appointment on Thursday morning. After several weeks of not gaining any weight, I jumped up four pounds in the last week. I don't think it's as much pregnancy related as it is "three turkey suppers and a shitload of Christmas dainties" related.

Baby is still in head down position which is good. She's been rocking and rolling a LOT these past two nights...I'm hoping it means that she's jockeying into "go" position. Still not much for actual swelling, but apparently the sensation of my shin ripping open is caused by water retention pinching off some nerves. When I told my doctor that it happens whenever I kneel, his response was, "Well, maybe you shouldn't kneel then?". And that's why he's the doctor.

Doc is away these next four days so I'm hoping Baby stays put. After discussing my birth plan with him for the past several weeks, I really don't want some other doctor jumping in and delivering Baby with no clue as to my wishes. I see Doc again next Wednesday at which point my membranes will be stripped and I'll take a shot of castor oil.

I know I've been saying all along that "I'm not tired of being pregnant, I'm just excited to meet her", but you know what? I am getting tired of being pregnant. I know this will be the easiest it will ever be to take care of Baby, but it's getting to that point where I want my body back. I want to be able to roll over without my pubic bone snapping. I want to be able to put on my boots without having to take a ten minute rest break once they are on. I want to have longer than five minutes in between trips to the bathroom. I want to be able to get out of a chair without the help of a crowbar and three burly men.

Five days and counting...

  2. Don't take castor oil! The nurses will draw straws to see who WON'T be your nurse...so I've heard. Just do long walks...

  3. LOL about the nurses...I can't imagine it's pleasant to take care of someone with the runs.

I've done a little reading on castor oil. My doc said it would cause a few hours worth of the runs and I'm guessing I will be at home for the duration of the "effect". I just need to make sure I stay hydrated.

I would do the long walks if it wasn't so dang cold out and if I wasn't afraid of slipping on the ice. I'm a klutz on a good day, let alone when I'm hauling this belly around :-)

  4. I think it's more the odour of the runs with castor oil as to why it's not pleasant. I hear ya about the ice...forgot about that!

  5. Castor oil??!?!?! What is it all about?!??!?
Anyways, don't worry, just go ahead minute by minute, you will feel what to do and you will be helped out by experienced people.
    Hope to skype soon.
