My top ten favourite non-musical sounds in no particular order:
1) Chainsaws at the lake
There's just something about being woken up by the sound of a far off chainsaw that is actually quite pleasant and not at all irritating. And I'm not even being sarcastic.
2) Car sounds at night
No radio on. The solitary click-click-click of the turn signal. The swish-swish of the wiper blades. The thump-thump sound the tires make as you drive along Saskatchewan's crappily paved highways.
3) Lawnmowers
Again, the far off sound of a lawnmower on a Saturday morning is actually a nice sound. Just as long as it's not right under my bedroom window :-)
4) Cats purring
There's just something about that soft rattly sound coming from a kitty's throat...
5) Katelyn's soother
Katelyn continues to suck on her soother long after she's asleep. Every so often, she makes this quiet squeak squeak squish squish sound with the soother and it makes me feel peaceful.
6) Our ski-boat
I'm seeing a trend here with the sounds of motors...you wouldn't think that loud sounds would be my favourite, but they are. I love the sound our boat makes when it's taking off. Perhaps this is because, for me, it means my family is together and enjoying time at the lake.
7) Shandi's nails
What's this? The woman with a severe nail phobia actually likes something associated with them? Yes, yes. While I cannot bring myself to trim Shandi's nails because of said phobia, I do love the sound they make as she prances across the floor.
8) Thunderstorms
Between the cracking thunder and the pouring rain hitting the roof, I love love love thunderstorms.
9) Heartbeats
One might argue that this could be a musical sound, but it's my blog and I say it's not musical. I love laying with my head on Mike's chest and just listening to the thump thump of his heart. And don't even get me started on hearing a baby's heartbeat during an ultrasound :-)
10) Campfires
The kindling crackling. The bigger logs glowing deep red as the burn. Random sparks popping and hissing. Combine it all with watching the smoke from the moss as it curls up into the night sky. Pure bliss, I tell you.
I was telling my husband just the other day that the sound of a saw outside (be it a circular saw, or a table saw) is comforting to me.
ReplyDeleteProlly goes back to unresolved issues with my Dad. haha.
