Dear...

Dear Mike,

Thank you for being more perfect than I could ever ask for. You have done an amazing job over the past nine days. Thank you for letting me crush your hand while I was in labour. Thank you for asking my dad to pray for me while I was in the OR. Thank you for all the running around you have done, getting me whatever I have asked for. Thank you for oohing and aahing over the wee tiny baby outfits at Sears yesterday. Thank you for being so in love with our daughter. Thank you for reminding to me to eat, sleep, take my pills and to stay sitting. Thank you for doing all of this on very little sleep.

Love,

Your Wife.

Dear Katelyn,

Thank you for being more perfect than I could ever ask for. You are an extremely content baby. You might have your days and nights a little mixed up, but I am okay with that. I sleep when you sleep and that's all that matters. I love your high pitched scream that sounds like a tea kettle, but I also love your choked sob that sounds like The Count from Sesame Street. I'm sorry that I start to yell, "Vun! Vun boo-tiful baby!" whenever you make that noise, but I can't help it...it's just too cute. You are so precious and I still can't get over the fact that we made you and that you were in my belly. You are absolute perfection...don't ever change :-)

Love,

Your Mama

Dear Mom and Dad,

Thank you for all that you have done over the past week. I am so glad that you were able to be there for Katelyn's birth (although I think Dad was a little squeamish about standing on the other side of the curtain while I was delivering her!). Thank you for coming to the hospital and visiting me...it sure broke up the boredom of the day. Thank you for cleaning our house before we came home. Thank you for the meals you have cooked, the dishes you have washed and the laundry you have done. Thanks, Dad, for stopping by later in the evening to get your Katelyn-cuddle time. Thank you, Mom, for coming over and watching Katelyn so Mike and I could sleep or do some running around together. I am so happy that I was able to give you a grandchild that you are able to see whenever you want. Katelyn is a very, very lucky little girl to have you two as grandparents!

Love,

Your Daughter

Dear Vagina,

Seriously? What is wrong with you? After all I've been through with the symphysis pubis during pregnancy and the 2nd degree tear during delivery and then the vaginal vault tear, you just couldn't help yourself. You had to go ahead and get an infection, didn't you? It's not enough that I've taken care of you since I could first wipe my own bum? I've done all I could to help keep you healthy, smelling nice and looking the best you could, but ohhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooo that wasn't enough.

What more do you want from me? Do you want to be waxed? Because I would get that done if it meant you would smarten up and stop causing me grief. You've got lips, so why don't you tell me what you want? All I'm asking for is a little compassion and the ability to sit down without feeling like I'm going to split in half, or maybe to laugh without feeling like I'm going to bust through my vaginal floor. Please please please listen to what the antibiotics are saying and just go away. I'd like to be able to cough without yelling, "Oh shit! Vagina!" right after. It's one thing to do that at home, but I sure startled the cashier at Sears yesterday.

Best regards,

Your Owner

  2. Thank YOU for stopping by and visiting...it is really nice to know that people want to meet Katelyn and it gives me something to look forward to in the day (besides the whole I'm-in-love-and-can't-stop-cuddling-my-baby-girl aspect!). I'm sorry the visit got cut even shorter with the maternity nurses phoning though! Looking forward to another visit whenever you want one!

  5. You didn't really yell that out at Sears, did you???

    :)

My mom has one of those donut pillows if you need one. I sure used it a lot after Madeline & Luke were born. Remember, she's just around the corner!

  8. Hi, this is my first time reading your blog. I'm a friend of Dixie's. I can't believe what you went thru after your delivery - glad to hear you are recovering tho' - baby steps is better than nothing!

I'm currently nursing my 4th and have struggled with each one, every...single...day. So I supplement. To me, having a full content baby is so much better than hearing them cry from hunger. Never doubt that you're doing the right thing!

  9. Hi Jyl, I am also a friend of Dixie's.

I love hearing birth stories. Yours got a bit scary, and I'm glad everything, in the end, was ok.

I could not stop laughing at the end of this post. YOu are hilarious!

    Beautiful baby.

  10. Jyl, I came to your blog through Dixie's because I read your comment about crying about having to supplement with formula. If you want to chat with someone who knows how you feel, please email me! I have a blog too, but it's private - if you email me, I will add you to my list. I just had a baby girl 5 months ago.

  11. Dixie and Amarie: I did actually say those words in Sears, but we're not 100% sure if the cashier gave me that look because she overheard or if it was something else. It was cause for laughter once we left the store though :-)

Christine and Sophie: I'm hoping Katelyn gets my sense of humour as well. Between myself and my dad (who I got my humour from), I'm sure we're bound to pass some of it on to her!

Lisa, Natalie and Heather: Welcome to the blog! I'm always happy to hear from new readers and I hope you stick around :-) It is so nice to hear from other new mom's and to know that I'm not the only one who has/will struggle with the breastfeeding/supplementing issue. My counsellor said that as long as I'm meeting Katelyn's needs (however that may be), than I am doing the right thing. I just need to start believing that now :-)
